OUR PROGRAMMES
Three ways to engage with your household finances
Each programme is different in scope and format, but all share the same principles: plain language, a calm pace, and no commercial agenda of any kind.
Back to HomeHow Nilai programmes are structured
All Nilai programmes rest on the same foundation: that financial understanding is built gradually, through connected ideas explained in a sensible sequence, with time to absorb each stage before moving to the next. This is different from a seminar, which presents information quickly to a large group and expects participants to organise it for themselves later.
In practice, this means every session has a defined, limited scope. The Household programme takes up one of four topics each Saturday morning. The Investor curriculum builds over eight weeks in a sequence designed so that each week's material rests on a clear foundation from the week before. The bespoke Household Track moves at whatever pace the household needs.
OUR APPROACH AT A GLANCE
One clear topic per session
Each session has a defined subject so participants know what they are learning and why.
Printed materials to take away
A reference document from each session, written in plain language, designed to remain useful for years.
Questions welcomed throughout
Small groups and unhurried sessions mean there is always room for a question to be properly answered.
No products introduced at any point
The curriculum is educational only. There is no moment at which a financial product is recommended or offered.
PROGRAMME ONE · SGD 240
A Steady Look at the Household
Four Saturday morning sessions · Small group, max twelve
A four-week group for adults in their forties and fifties who would like to take a steady, careful look at their household financial picture. Each week considers one subject: the household balance sheet, household cash flow, CPF as the household's first pension layer, and the careful matter of protection.
Sessions are held on Saturday mornings in a quiet seminar room, with light refreshments and a printed reader for each week. The group is small at twelve and the pace of discussion is calm; there is no expectation that participants will arrive knowing anything in particular.
What is covered
- Week 1: The household balance sheet — assets, liabilities, and net worth
- Week 2: Household cash flow — income, spending, and what remains
- Week 3: CPF as the household's first pension layer — OA, SA, RA, and retirement income
- Week 4: Protection — life, health, disability, and what a household actually needs
PROGRAMME TWO · SGD 470
The Considered Investor's Curriculum
Eight-week course · Evening or weekend sessions · Small group
An eight-week curriculum for those who would like to learn about investing well enough to make their own household choices calmly. The course is educational and does not recommend particular products.
Topics include the categories of investments available to Singapore residents, the place of low-cost index funds and ETFs, the careful matter of fees and costs over a thirty-year horizon, the role of dividend-paying instruments in a household income strategy, the place of cash, Singapore Savings Bonds and SGS bonds as a quiet floor, and the temperament a household needs to remain steady through market conditions it does not enjoy.
Topics across eight weeks
PROGRAMME THREE · SGD 720
The Steady Household Track
Five private sessions · Conducted across roughly two months
A five-session bespoke programme for households who would like a careful, private series of conversations about their financial picture. The programme is shaped by the household; typical conversations include the planning of retirement that is now within view, the integration of a business interest into the household picture, and the question of how a household supports an ageing parent.
It also includes the writing of household papers — will, lasting power of attorney, and a household summary document that family members can refer to. Each session is followed by a short written summary, so the household has a clear record of what was discussed and what was decided.
Typical areas covered
- Retirement planning — timing, CPF, and income sources
- Business interests and the household financial picture
- Supporting an ageing parent — what it costs and how to plan
- Will preparation — what to consider and what to include
- Lasting power of attorney — why it matters and how to approach it
- A household summary document for family reference
